Cardiac Health

*Project ECHO Cardiac Health is currently changing formats. During this transition, bi-monthly sessions will no longer take place via Zoom. Information about the new format and future sessions will be announced soon via WVCTSI.org and WVCTSI's weekly ENews*

Launching on March 1, 2019 WVCTSI Project ECHO Cardiac Health is intended to educate primary care providers about various aspects of heart failure care. Topics will include new treatment options including medications, mechanical support as well as a cardiac transplant. In addition, there will be a focus on the treatment of pulmonary hypertension and how this leads to similar symptoms of heart failure. The focus will be on helping primary care providers with ongoing care of the heart failure patient in their setting as well as understanding signs and symptoms of advanced heart failure that may require referral to an advanced heart failure specialist. Our multidisciplinary team of educators will include cardiologists with advanced heart failure training, specialty care nurses trained in a heart failure clinic, cardiology trained pharmacists, nurse practitioners, and dieticians. Our goal is to help provide the best possible care to patients with heart failure no matter where they live and we feel strongly that helping them have excellent care close to home will enhance their lives on a daily basis.

Learning Objectives:

  • Improve provider knowledge of basic heart failure physiology in both prescribed and reduced ejection fraction.
  • Increase knowledge of primary care providers in regards to heart failure medication guidelines.
  • Understand advanced heart failure and treatment options.
  • Improve understanding of the effects of nutrition on patients with heart failure.
