Executive Advisory Board

 

The role of the Executive Advisory Board is to provide strategic direction for the WV CTSI director and other WV CTSI committees. It is also to ensure that the mission of the WV CTSI is being fulfilled. Members of this Board will include senior level leaders from all WV CTSI partner institutions. This membership will ensure that all interests are represented and included in the decision making process. Dr. James P. Clements, WVU President, will serve as the chair. This board which will meet bi-annually is diverse by design, and includes not only academic representation of the partner academic institutions in the State, but draws significant strength from select health services and business leaders within the State.

The responsibilities of the Executive Advisory Board include: ensuring communication with regard to WV CTSI activities to all stakeholders; reviewing and approving the strategic plan for WV CTSI implementation; reviewing and approving overall WV CTSI annual budget; reviewing and approving the annual goals of the WV CTSI; evaluating annually the progress of the WV CTSI – making appropriate recommendations - reports will be provided to the committee by the Evaluation & Tracking program; and assisting in leveraging resources required for WV CTSI programmatic development and maintenance.
 

 

Christopher C. Colenda, M.D., M.P.H. - Chair

Christopher C. Colenda, M.D, M.P.H., is West Virginia University's Chancellor for Health Sciences.  Dr. Colenda earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and his M.P.H. degree from Johns Hopkins University. He is a geriatric psychiatrist. 

Until October, 2009, he was the Jean and Thomas McMullin dean of medicine and vice president for clinical affairs at Texas A&M Health Science Center. His background includes faculty and administrative appointments at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Medical College of Virginia of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Adelman Michael

Michael D. Adelman, D.P.M., D.O., J.D., F.A.O.C.Pr.

Dr. Michael Adelman became the Acting President for the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine on April 10, 2010. He previously served as Vice President for Academic Affairs & Dean since August 2002. Prior to his appointment at WVSOM, he was the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

J. Tom Jones

J. Tom Jones, M.A.

Tom Jones is President and CEO of the West Virginia United Health System.

The System consists of West Virginia University Hospitals, United Hospital Center, West Virginia University Hospitals-East (City Hospital and Jefferson Memorial Hospital), United Physicians Care, and Health Partners Network. He has served in this position since 2002. Prior to serving in this role, Mr. Jones was the CEO of the Genesis Hospital System, Inc. (2000-2002) and Executive Director/CEO of St. Mary's Medical Center (1990-2000) both located in Huntington, West Virginia.

Dr. Curt Peterson

Curt M. Peterson, Ph.D.

Dr. Curt M. Peterson leads West Virginia University’s research mission as Vice President for Research and Economic Development and President of the WVU Research Corporation.

Before coming to WVU, he held senior leadership and faculty positions at the University of Northern Colorado and Auburn University. A biologist, Peterson’s research has led to the production of more than 165 technical reports including 53 published journal articles. He has served as the principle investigator (PI) or co-PI on grants or contracts from a wide range of federal and state agencies. He received his doctorate in biology from the University of Oregon and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Moorhead State University.

David L. Ramsey

David L. Ramsey is President and Chief Executive Officer of CAMC Health System, Inc. and President and Chief Executive Officer of Charleston Area Medical Center, Inc.

CAMC Health System is the parent company of CAMC (with three teaching hospitals), Teays Valley Hospital (a community hospital), the CAMC Foundation, the CAMC Health Education and Research Institute, and Integrated Health Care Providers, Inc. CAMC is a not-for-profit, 838-bed regional tertiary referral hospital. Ramsey is active in a number of civic and professional organizations, including the HealthNet Aeromedical Services Board (Chairman), the West Virginia Hospital Association Board, the American Hospital Association and VHA Central Atlantic Board.

Uma Sundaram, M.D.

Dr. Sundaram has held numerous leadership positions over the years and currently is the director of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute.

He is Chief of Digestive Diseases in charge of: 1. inpatient and outpatient clinical gastroenterology for faculty, fellows, nurse practioners and physician assistants; 2. the education of students, residents, fellows, faculty, and the community health care providers for digestive diseases; 3. all digestive diseases research both basic and clinical; 4. overall administration including budgeting of the entire section and the hospital endoscopy unit. Since 2008 Dr. Sundaram as Assistant Vice President in HSC is responsible for assessing, coordinating and promoting research in all of the clinical departments in the schools of medicine, nursing, dentistry and pharmacy. Dr. Sundaram directly reports to the HSC Chancellor.
