WVCTSI Research Scholar and Clinical Research Fellow Program accepting applications

The West Virginia Clinical & Translational Institute (WVCTSI) is now accepting letters of intent (LOI) to apply for the WVCTSI Research Scholar and Clinical Research Fellow Program.  These competitive programs are designed to assist in the development of clinical and/or translational investigators with the desired outcomes of peer-reviewed publications and mentor-sponsored (e.g. NIH K-type) and independent federal (e.g. NIH R-type) research awards.

We are seeking candidates at the Assistant Professor level with a clinical degree (MD, MD, PhD PharmD, DO, PhD-RN, DDS, etc.) who are actively engaged in clinical research with the intent of pursuing a career as a physician/clinician scientist. Candidates must also be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Appointed individuals are expected to 1) conduct mentored clinical and/or translational research (defined as research with human subjects or populations, or with direct application to human health), 2) develop the foundation for research and leadership skills by participating in a structured and tailored professional development program, and 3) work closely with the WVCTSI by participating in relevant mentor, training, and educational programs.

Candidates will be eligible for one year of 50% protected time with salary support and additional research and travel funds. Research Scholars may be renewed for one additional year on a competitive basis, depending on progress and available resources.

In your one-page letter of intent to apply, please provide the following: 1) brief description of your planned research program, 2) your current clinical, teaching, and service responsibilities and 3) names of potential research mentors for your project.  Please attach a curriculum vitae. Candidates must have the support of their Department Chair and Division Head in order to be considered for this program and a brief statement of support from the appropriate supervisor should be provided along with the LOI.

The deadline for the required letter of intent is December 15, 2017.  Application materials and an invitation to apply will be provided to you upon receipt and administrative review of your LOI. The final full application deadline will be March 15, 2018.

An informational session will be held on Wednesday, November 8th at 3:00 PM in Erma Byrd Biomedical Research Center Room 201.

Please direct questions and email your LOI to Dr. Julie Lockman, WVCTSI Director of Investigator Development, at jmlockman@hsc.wvu.edu.
